Hello and welcome.
2019 has ushered in a some changes for the Sports Grounds and Events group committee. Firstly, we said goodbye to a number of long-standing committee members who have chosen to either step down or have reached the limit of their tenure. On behalf of the group I would like to thank them for their time and effort and commitment to the group. I would especially like to thank Richard Limb past chair for the committee who did an exemplary job building the committee and developing the group.
I am pleased to announce that following Richard’s departure, I have been voted on and delighted to accept the role of Chair and look forward to an exciting year ahead. To support me, Simon Garrett (X-Venture) has taken up the role of vice chair, Sue Storey (SGSA), Leslie Cox (Silverstone), Garry Jones (Storm4events) and Steve Blake (Storm4events) continue as committee members and we welcome Chloe Batchelor (independent) and Eddy Grant (Symphotech) as new members to the committee.
We had our first committee meeting of the year on the 5th Feb where we reviewed and updated our three year plan and discussed a range of issues including primary authorities, the new Green Guide, stored energy batteries and its application in the events sector and any associated legislative changes that may impact on the leisure and events sector.
We continue to liaise and work closely with the IOSH Theatre Advisory Group and are looking to forge a working relationship with the Fire Risk Management Group. Members of the committee also sit on a number of external sports ground and events committees which enables us to stay abreast of trending and new issues affecting our industry sector.
Finally, we are hoping to run a conference later this year which will be interest to our group, IOSH members and the persons who work or are otherwise associated with the wider sports ground, leisure and events sector. More details to follow.
The next committee meeting is scheduled for 21st May, if you have any points you would like raised please drop me or any of the committee members an email.
Wishing you all a very safe and successful 2019 season.
Chris Hall. CFIOSH, GIFireE.
